FLAVIIR Demonstrator X (Final Demonstrator)

FLAVIIR is intended to culminate in 2008/9 with the flight of the final, subscale, integrated demonstrator vehicle.

Based on the BAE/Cranfield University Eclipse the aircraft will weigh approximately 50kg and have a 2m wingspan. The aircraft will demonstrate control without the use of conventional aerodynamic control surfaces, it is hoped that this will produce a vehicle with much lower maintenance needs and greater stealth characteristics without any cost or performance penalties compared to conventional aircraft.

In addition to the flying vehicle a full scale ground based demonstrator will also be produced which will be used as a focal point for other areas of research and demonstration such as advanced manufacturing, materials and structures.

This will build on a series of previous demonstrator vehicles designed and flown between 2004 and 2009.
